What the house book keeps, and why.

Updated 3 November 2026.

This page

Mama’s Kitchen is a house book for today, the week, and the cupboard. This page says what we keep when you use the website or the app, and what we do with it.

Who we are

Mama’s Kitchen is the name on this site and in the Mama’s Kitchen app. If something here needs a word from us, use Write to us.

What we keep

When you make an account, we keep the email you sign in with, and a name if Google or you give us one. If you continue with Google, we also keep the Google account id they send us, so we know it’s you the next time.

In the house book itself we keep what you write: meals, dish names, what’s in the cupboard, the shopping list, meal times, which sittings you track, and how early you’d like a ping.

On the website, a note through Write to us includes the name, email, and words you send. We read those so we can write back.

The picture beside your email in the app is a Gravatar for that address. We don’t store a photo of you. We ask Gravatar for the image that matches a hash of the email.

How we use it

We use this to run the house book: to sign you in, to show today and the week, to remember the cupboard, and to send the four numbers when you sign in with email.

Meal pings are set on your phone. We do not send marketing mail, and we do not sell the house book to anyone.

Who else sees it

Google sees what you allow when you continue with Google. Resend carries the sign-in numbers and, when a note is meant to reach us, the Write to us letter. Gravatar sees a hash of your email so the little picture can appear.

They only see what they need to do that work. We don’t hand the cupboard to advertisers.

On your phone

The app keeps a sign-in token in the phone’s secure store so you don’t have to enter the four numbers every morning. Meal reminders use the phone’s notification tray. You can turn those off in Settings, or in the phone’s own settings.

If you share a plan PDF, that file leaves the app because you asked it to. We don’t send it anywhere else.

How long

We keep the household while the account is open. Sign-in numbers go cold after a short wait and are not kept as a living code. Write to us notes are kept long enough to read them and reply.

Your choices

You can sign out in Settings. That takes the token off the phone. The household stays in the book until you ask us to take it off.

If you want a copy of what we keep, a change, or the household removed, write to us and say so. We’ll do that work by hand.

Children

Mama’s Kitchen is a house book for a household, not a place we build for children under 13. If you think a child has an account, write to us and we’ll take it down.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we’ll date it at the top. The app still opens this same page, so you’ll see the current words.
